Pioneering a circular future to end textile waste

Global polyester production capacity has reached 110–120 million tonnes per year, with textiles and polyester fibre accounting for the largest share of around two-thirds, or 72–78 million tonnes. The rest is mainly used for bottles, packaging and films, alongside smaller industrial applications.

At the same time, volumes of polyester-containing waste continue to rise, from discarded clothing to packaging and other applications. Much of this material ends up in landfills or incineration because complex blends cannot be recycled with today’s conventional technologies. Only a small fraction is recycled back into new fibres, leaving a vast untapped resource — and it is exactly here that matterr provides a solution.

Our depolymerisation technology converts mixed polyester waste streams into virgin-quality drop-in raw materials that seamlessly re-enter existing production chains. This closes material loops, reduces reliance on fossil feedstocks and turns polyester waste into a reliable resource.

The circular process of recycling PET Fibers and Polyester Fibers and how it does not use fossil ressources or cause incineration, leakage or landfills.

Functional Benefits

Drop-in solution

Our monomers are a true drop-in solution: chemically identical to virgin material and fully compatible with existing production standards. That means no need to change infrastructure, processes or supply chains. We enable the circular economy—not by disrupting the system, but by complementing it.

Significant CO2 reduction

By keeping carbon in the loop, matterr prevents PET waste from ending up in landfills or incinerators. Our process produces high-quality monomers with a significantly lower carbon footprint—helping to decarbonize the PET value chain and preserve valuable resources.

Fast depolymerization, high selectivity

Our technology breaks down PET waste in seconds—at moderate temperatures and in a fully continuous process. Thanks to high selectivity, we recover only what’s valuable, efficiently and at high purity. The result: pure monomers, ready for reuse.

Numerous Feedstock options

Our process handles a wide range of PET-rich waste—from packaging to apparel to technical textiles. Even with challenging input streams and up to 20% non-PET content, we deliver consistent monomer quality. Robust, flexible, and ready for real-world conditions.
